Description

Soap, gentle exfoliator and washcloth in one
Enjoy our much-loved Luxury Lanolin Soap in a beautifully practical new form. Each bar is individually wrapped in 100% natural wool and wet-felted by hand by one of our two skilled local makers.

Simply wet the felted soap and rub it between your hands to create a rich, creamy lather through the wool. The softly textured felt gently exfoliates as you wash, removing the need for a separate flannel or sponge.

The wool also provides additional grip, making the soap easier to hold than a smooth, slippery bar.

Made using our traditional lanolin soap
Inside the felt is our Luxury Lanolin Soap, made using the traditional Mitchell’s wool fat formulation.

The soap contains natural lanolin and produces a rich, creamy lather that gently cleanses while helping skin feel soft, smooth and comfortable.

Mitchell’s was Romney Marsh Wools’ trusted chemist and the creator of the original formulation. The soap continues to be made for us by the same experienced British manufacturers.

Hand-felted by local makers
Every soap is individually wet-felted by hand by local UK Crafters. It is a skilled and time-consuming process that transforms the soap and natural wool into one complete, ready-to-use product.

Because each bar is handmade using natural wool, slight variations in appearance, shape and texture are part of its individual character.

Helps your soap last longer
The wool casing acts as a natural soap saver. As the soap becomes smaller, the wool continues to shrink and felt around it, helping keep the remaining soap together and allowing it to be used until the end.

Once the soap has been used, you will be left with a small piece of natural felted wool. The wool is biodegradable and can be reused for cleaning or returned to the garden to break down naturally.

What is felted soap?

Felted soap is a solid soap bar enclosed within a layer of natural wool. When wet, the soap lathers through the wool, allowing the felted bar to be used as a soap, gentle exfoliator and washcloth in one.

How do I use felted soap?

Wet the complete bar thoroughly and rub it between your hands to create a lather. Use it directly on wet skin with gentle circular movements, then rinse your skin thoroughly.

Do I remove the wool before using the soap?

No. The wool stays around the soap throughout its life. The soap lathers through the felt, and the wool gradually shrinks around the bar as the soap is used.

What is the wool made from?

The soap is wrapped in 100% natural, undyed wool. The wool is biodegradable and provides the gently textured outer surface.

Does the felt exfoliate the skin?

Yes. The natural texture of the wool provides gentle physical exfoliation while you wash. Use light pressure, particularly on delicate or sensitive skin.

Is it easier to hold than an ordinary soap bar?

The textured wool covering provides additional grip and is generally easier to hold than a smooth, wet bar of soap. This is one reason felted soap is popular with customers who find conventional soap slippery.

Does felted soap last longer?

The wool acts as a natural soap saver by keeping the soap together as it becomes smaller. It continues to shrink and felt around the remaining bar, helping you use more of the soap.

Which size should I choose?

Choose the 75g size for handwashing, guest bathrooms, travel or a smaller gift. Choose the 150g size for bathing, showering and longer-lasting full-body use.

Is felted soap suitable for sensitive skin?

Many customers enjoy the gentle lather and soft exfoliation, but skin sensitivities vary. Use light pressure, check the ingredients and perform a patch test first if your skin is particularly sensitive. Stop using the product if irritation occurs.

What are the benefits of using lanolin soap?

Lanolin soap is known for its moisturizing properties, helping to keep skin soft, smooth, and comfortable. The presence of natural lanolin in the soap provides a rich lather that gently cleanses while preventing skin from drying out.

Is the felted wool covering safe for sensitive skin?

Yes, the natural wool covering is safe for sensitive skin. It is free from synthetic materials and chemicals, reducing the risk of irritation. However, it is recommended to perform a patch test if you have specific sensitivities.

How long does a bar of felted lanolin soap typically last?

The longevity of a bar of felted lanolin soap can vary based on usage, but due to the wool casing acting as a natural soap saver, it is designed to last longer than traditional soap bars. Proper drying between uses will also extend its lifespan.

Can the soap be used on both the face and body?

Yes, the felted lanolin soap is suitable for use on both the face and body. Its gentle exfoliation properties make it effective for cleansing without being harsh on the skin.

What should I do with the wool casing once the soap is used up?

Once the soap is fully used, the wool casing can be reused for cleaning purposes around the home or can be composted as it is biodegradable, allowing it to break down naturally in the garden.
