Description

Bring timeless British pattern and naturally coloured Romney wool together with our distinctive Dogtooth Fabric.

Woven from 100% wool from our own Romney flock, the classic checked design is created by combining natural grey, brown and dark-brown yarns. The fleeces are not artificially dyed or bleached, allowing the genuine shades of the wool to create the pattern.

Dogtooth—also commonly known as houndstooth—is a versatile heritage design with enduring appeal. Its strong pattern makes it an excellent choice for clothing, accessories and statement textile projects.

Product details:

  • 100% wool from our own Romney flock
  • British wool
  • Natural grey, brown and dark-brown yarn blend
  • Undyed and unbleached
  • Traditional dogtooth pattern
  • Approximately 158cm wide
  • Full-width fabric priced per metre
  • 10cm × 10cm samples available
  • Machine washable using a wool cycle
  • Line dry naturally
  • Do not tumble dry
  • The fabric can be used for suitable jackets, waistcoats, skirts, accessories, bags, hats, cushions and textile crafts.

Because the design is patterned, allow additional fabric when positioning and matching the dogtooth across seams. The amount required will depend on your pattern, garment size and preferred layout.

Natural fleece colour may vary subtly between production batches. These gentle differences are an authentic feature of undyed British wool.

We strongly recommend ordering a sample before purchasing a larger quantity. This allows you to assess the pattern scale, colour, weight, texture and drape in your own lighting.

The full-width fabric costs £55 per metre. The sample measures approximately 10cm × 10cm and costs £3.50.

How is the Dogtooth fabric sold?

The full-width fabric is priced and sold by the metre. Select the required quantity according to the number of metres you wish to order.

How wide is the fabric?

The Dogtooth fabric is approximately 158cm wide. Minor variation may occur as part of the weaving and finishing process.

Can I order a sample first?

Yes. A 10cm × 10cm sample is available for £3.50 so you can assess the pattern, natural colours, texture and weight before ordering full metres.

Has the fabric been dyed?

No. The grey, brown and dark-brown shades are created using naturally coloured fleeces. The wool is neither artificially dyed nor bleached.

What is the difference between dogtooth and houndstooth?

The terms are often used interchangeably for the same distinctive broken-check design. “Dogtooth” is the name we use for this Romney wool fabric.

Will several metres arrive as one continuous length?

Multiple metres will be supplied as one continuous length wherever possible. If a continuous piece is essential, contact us before ordering so availability can be confirmed.

What are the care instructions for the Dogtooth British Romney Wool Fabric?

The Dogtooth British Romney Wool Fabric should be machine washed using a wool cycle. It is recommended to line dry naturally and to avoid tumble drying to maintain the integrity of the fabric.

Can this fabric be used for upholstery projects?

While the Dogtooth fabric is primarily suitable for clothing, accessories, and crafts, it may also be used for light upholstery. However, please consider the durability requirements of your specific project before proceeding.

Is this fabric suitable for outdoor use?

This fabric is not specifically treated for outdoor use. It is recommended for indoor projects unless appropriate treatments are applied to enhance its water resistance.

Will the colour of the fabric change over time?

As the Dogtooth fabric is made from natural fibres that are undyed and unbleached, subtle variations in colour may occur over time due to exposure to light and use, which is a natural characteristic of undyed wool.

How should I store leftover fabric to ensure its longevity?

Leftover fabric should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. It is advisable to fold the fabric neatly and keep it in a breathable fabric bag to prevent dust accumulation.
