Our whole business was founded on the principle of making use of our beautiful British Romney wool, and that includes not just the top quality fleece we hand select to create our range, but all of the wool that is sheared from our flock. We have been looking at ways to make use of the 'dags' - the sometimes soiled wool from around the back end of the sheep - for a while now and are delighted to have collaborated with Donaldson Group to come up with what we think is the perfect solution - Wool Pellets.
Our Wool Pellets provide a natural way to keep slugs & snails at bay in the garden, simply place the pellets around the base of the plant and water lightly. The wool will create a surface which slugs & snails do not like crossing, due to the feel of it underfoot.
There are other great benefits to using the wool pellets in your garden too:
- They act as a natural, slow release fertiliser, a property which wool has anyway, but that is supercharged by the use of 'dags', where the soiled wool has additional manure mixed in with it.
- As a naturally hydroscopic fibre, wool has excellent water retention, so will help to keep the soil around plants moist, reducing the need for frequent watering in hot weather.
- The pellets may be used on the surface as a repellent/fertiliser, but can also be used to replace peat when blending with other materials for potting, again providing a far more sustainable alternative.
